Body kit installation tips?

Gonna try to install a body kit on my 99 camaro. Anyone have any tips?

Do i need to paint the pieces before i put them on my car?

Anyone ever install an "Extreme Dynamics, Sniper" bodykit before?

Re: Body kit installation tips?

I installed GE's on my 85 Bird.

Fit the pieces on there first, mount all/ if any brackets, drill all mounting holes first. Make sure it fits right, then take it down to be painted. You can use some clear silicone to seal the drilled holes, to prevent rust. Or use a type of brush on primer w/ a small brush to hit the bare metal. You can stuck the bolts in the silicone tube to get some on there, then sink em home. (after kit is painted)

Cool very helpful. Thank you.

Do body kits usually come with the templates to drill the holes?

your going to have a hard time making that kit fit if its came from the same mold mine did. The fitment was so bad i had no choice but to mold mine in. check out the link to it in my sig.

no templates and you are going to have to fabricate side mounts for the side skitrs and may have to cut about 2-3 inches off of the passenger side on the front bumper becuse for somereason it was too long. As for the rear bumper you will have to remove the stock mounting plate with the studs in it from the original bumper. then have someove hold the new bumper up and you have to get under the rear and mark the holes in the new bumper to be drilled. You will also have to come up with some front turn signals that fit as the stockers dont curve as sharp as the new bumper does. Thats why there is no holes cut out for them. Just read my post about my car in my sig and you may learn alot.

Re: Body kit installation tips?

Wow that is awesome work man. I read all of your thread and a ton of good info. If i decide to press my luck and go for the Sniper kit i will not be molding it at all. That's too much work for me, at least in the beginning. Maybe later, like next spring or something.

I've got a 99 camaro, so i'm wondering if the issues you described with fitment have been fixed in the newer Sniper kit. Honestly all this work is putting me off from trying this myself. It would only be myself doing all this work and i don't have much experience with body work.

The issues i can forsee problems with doing this myself is the rear bumper, fabrication and cutting/trimming the front passenger side bumper. Those things you already described.

How are you going to put in the turn signals? Are you going to cut a hole in the front or side? Its strange that they didn't include holes for the signals.

Thanks, very very helpful.

How difficult was it to install the hood? I also need to put on a hood. Thinking of getting a carbon fiber SS hood.

Re: Body kit installation tips?

the hood is easy. just 4 bolts for the henges and 4 for the numatic shocks.

Ill have to find my post on the turn signals. What i wound up doing is drilling 12 5mm holes and installing super bright orange leds. I wouldnt reccomend dooing this as it is highly illegal but my car is a show/strip car and will rarely see road time. Even if you could get a family member to just hold the bumper in place so you can libe up the mounting bracke and mark were you need the holes on both to line up at. then you could remove the bumper and drill the new holes in the bracket and the bumper and pop rivet them in.

The front bumper is held in by the stock mounting locations by the fenders and i used abour 6 self tapping screws along the part by the radiator to secure it there. Where i had to cut the bumper on the passengers side i fiberglassed it in from the back and spent maby 20 hours total on just that peice. hopefully the ls1 style like you have wont be off.

The side skirts are hels on by counter sunk rivits on each end (4 per end) but the middle of the side skirts is so off that there is about a 1.5" gap about 1 foot from the front end going to the back. I just glassed there to cover up the gap and then smothed out with a 50/50 mix of bondo and resin.

You will also have to spend some time block sanding/filling both bumpers. The mold must have been verry wavy or not preped well as they looked like the ocean on a windy day.

If they ship it through freight with overnight express besure to thuroghly inspect each and every peice for damage. My hood and corner on the drivers side skirt were damaged and i had to wait on them to cut a check for it so i could order new peices. What are they asking price wise? I only paid 1200 for the complete kit and hood and hood pins and some wire mesh for the grill area. You can talk them down a bit on the price if you call them.
