Blackout rear panel, came out funky. Help!

Hey guys, I bought a used rear taillight panel awhile back, stripped it, sanded it, painted it, and it looked really good. I got some vinyl decals from Brent (AWESOME) and put them on, and it looked bad ***. I installed the panel on the car tonight, and it looks grey!!! I'm slightly pissed, What can I do? I'm going to have to repaint it somehow, I was going to mask off the camaro inserts with masking tape, and do the same with the bowtie and the SS decals. Not too worried about the SS ones, I have extras, but what paint should I use? I used flat black, I have a friend with a real Berger and its flat black on his. REAL black. Ideas?

I think semi-gloss would be better. Also you used spray can paint right? It's not that exspensive for a gravity feed gun. It just depends if you have a compressor or not. Did you put primer on it?

i did the same thing and mine came out just fine. i used the flat black paint too. did you put it on in layers? i sprayed about 2 coats of primer on it before the paint. when you do it, you spray it, let it dry, spray it, let it dry, etc. i put about 5 layers of black and 4 layers of clear over that.

You have a pic of it that would help alot

if it's on the surface you might try sanding it a little

just wondering you didn't wax the flat black did you? I have heard it can turn it grey.

Eh, I pulled it off and hit it with some semi gloss krylon, it looks sweet now.

My old white tail panel had some dealer stickers on it when I bought it and it got torn up while trying to take it off. So we bought a new one from GM and I had a friend get it painted flat black at the dealership he works at. Mine came out great I think and all I ever get is compliments. It's cool I think because it's very unique and everyone knows it's me!

I think its a cool little add on but I was always a fan of a higher gloss rather than the flat black. Hope it works out for you.

Good Luck,
