Post best method???

okay i orderd a pair of diamond clear corners about 6 months ago, after about 4, the passenger side started retaining water, now, 2 months later, and a few draining sessions, i took it out after a big rain, and the water that was trapped has eroded the reflective surface coating on the inside, leaving just a yellow housing for the bottom 1/4 of the peice....

now, of course i will have to order a new pair, or see if procarparts will send me a complimentary part due to the lack of product quality, but when i do get it, should i

1)seal it up really well, and if so what is the most effective whay of doing so??

2) drill small holes in the bottom to let the water that gets in, out....

these are the 2 methods i know about to combat this problem, but which one will yeild better results??

Thanks,
Cade

This is a good question, what I don't understand about the drilling holes method, is that condensation would still be in there if say, it rained, and then was hot the next day. Condensation would kill the whole point of "crystal clears".

I haven't installed mine yet, but I am planning on the first method. Alot of clear silicon.

okay, from what i hear however, is that with the holes drilled, it lets the water that is in out, and the only reason condensation happens is becuaes the water is evaporating inside, before it can be let out, so the holes will allow a place for the water to be let out...

and after the first time i noticed that it was holding water, i emmediatly clear siliconed sealanted the entire thing over, and yet it still let alot of water in...

here is what i have done...

i took the crappy diamond clear, and drilled some small holes in it like a few hpeople here instructed me to do so... its "suppost" to rain tonight or tomm. here in texas, and if the problem is fixed, then when i get my new ones, i will drill holes in those too...

but until then , does anyone have any other ideas about what to do?? or which method is a surefire way to stop it from happening?

Ok picture this... a plastic cup, with a tiny bit of water in it.. now turn it upside down in the sun. Even though it evaporates, condensation builds up on the top and runs down the sides....

there has to be enough water in the blinker to start condensation, my driver side has had a few instances where the corners were getting condensedized, is that word?, but the next day was good as new....the water got out...somehow...i dunno, i need verification on the methods...

Well i'm worried about any moisture at all.. because then dust can get inside that housing as well. Thats why I am gonna seal mine completely, even where the bulbs go in. Then when I have to change a bulb I will have to re-silicon it.

Jus cut it with a razor blade and remove the old silicon, remove the old bulb, replace, and reseal. Silicon works nice like that, I'm talking about the clear kind, it stays pretty flexible, almost stretchy.

Cool

The little rubber seals for water-hoses work pretty well!

JDHOMMERT:

Orange = OEM

Clear Corners = APC, RK Sport (and the majority of $30 ones) not literally clear, but hazed over.

Diamond clear corners = Housing is completely clear as glass, (you can see the bulbs clearly) usually around $50+ (and not street legal)

They are either

1)not street legal or

2)they are just not DOT approved

I forget which one... I'll find out

#1 = #2

I think that to be DOT approved they must have a suitable refective surface (they must reflect headlights pointed at them, in addition to focusing your bulbs outwards).

The APC ones look like they could be DOT certified, although I'm not sure the crystal clear lenses could be.
