Hooking Up The "Harlan" Shiftlight Question
Hooking Up The "Harlan" Shiftlight Question
Hey guys, I'm in the process of hooking up a "Harlan" shiftlight and when I read the directions that were sent along with it, it says that you can use "the switched side of the ignition coil" for the shiftlight tach input. Now I have a '97 Z with the mods in the sig, but with a standard ignition system, (i.e. NO MSD or anything aftermarket in the ignition system). My coil has two wires running to it on the primary side, (not considering the big, secondary (high voltage) coil output wire); a pink wire and a green wire. I have two simple questions, 1) is the green wire the "switched" wire on the primary side of the coil?, and 2) has anyone else used this method of getting the tach input signal into their "Harlan" shiftlight, and does it work well???
I would REALLY like to use the ignition coil as the source of RPM input to the shiftlight, rather than the PCM tach output wire, because I've already got a hole through my firewall for my Line Lock, and the wiring setup for the shiftlight would be SOOOOO.... much easier if I could use the coil method of hookup.
Anyone currently using this method of hookup on their car?
TIA for all replies

Oh, and one more question, I'm going to be installing the shiftlight in that little vent hole on the left hand side of the windshield trim, so how does that plastic trim piece come off?? Do you just pry it off or does it have screws holding it somewhere???
Thanks again for all replies
