I went to get a price on having my back window tinted... The legal limit here is 35%, but the guy told me I could get 20% because the police could only pull you over and put a light meter on the side windows.. Anyone know if he's feeding me a bunch of BS?

 

I got 5% on my hatch window here in NY ...

There is no way I know of they can meter the rear window, they can do the sides for sure though..

why would the meter not read the back window? i think its a bunch of bs...but get 20 anyway and get 35 on the sides

 

im in texas, vehicle registered in Va, so VA cant force their laws on me, and texas cant enforce VA laws.....

 

VA is changing their tint law in the next couple of months, so you might want to get them done now, so you're grandfathered in.
I don't know whether they can check the back or not, but it is the Commonwealth!

 

they're changing the law to lighter tint? how could people with tint that is legal now proove that they had it done before the law was changed...or would they just hand out tickets to everyone and not care? not that mine is legal now or when they change it.....

 

looks like i better tint mine soon! i'll keep the grandfather proof in the glove compartment!

Yeah, I got mine done last Wednesday.
As far as proving it, I guess I'm going to stick the reciept in with my registration, so I know where it is.

EDIT: As far as a "grandfather clause" I doubt it.....But who knows..JMO

 

It wont read the back windows because its a square looking box that slides over the window its self when rolled half way down, it sends light through the glass and this box reads the % of light allowed through and tells the officer the tint is legal or it isnt... You cant roll a back window down for them to put this meter on it so they cant check it !

Thats why they can do your sides but not your back....

 

cool...im leaving tomorrow to go back home for a week or so but ill be back the 21st maybe...im pretty happy with the 35/20 though...it looks a lot darker than my roomates accord with the same tint...probably because i have less windows...it can look light in the sun but looks pretty dark in the shade or at night...i think it's a good compromise b/w blacked out and legal...

one of my friends got a tint ticket recently and he said the cop checked the hatch...maybe the cop was making up some number for the back

 

I figured they have a gun type of light device for the hatch but here in ny, you could have it spray painted if you wish... just cant tint the drive/pass/front windows....

 

I had 20% on the back and sides of the '94, in VA. never got pulled (for tint anyway ) in the year it was tinted
