Anybody Running 245/40/17 tires?

If anybody is running 245/40/17 tires on their Camaro that is stock height, I would love to see a pic of your car. Its time for new tires and I want to get a different size and I want to see how much wider they are and also if its going to change the fenderwell gap at all. Thanks guys

A 245/40-17 will be no wider than stock.... at least not if your car came with 245/50-16 stock. And the tire will have an outside diameter almost 1" smaller than stock. That means the gap between the tire and wheel well will grow by about 1/2", and your car will sit 1/2" closer to the ground. The preferred sizes would be 245/45-17 or 275/40-17.

I am running 17's and right now I have 245/45/17 but they are HR rated NOT ZR rate. I like everything about them except they are skinny and look weak and i want a wider looking tire. I was thinking about getting 245/40/ZR17. Does anybody have pics?

if the width of the wheel is 9 inches or greater, then dont go with the 245, go 275 if you want wide tires

If you want a WIDER tire, you need to increase the "section width" of the tire.... that is the "245" in the size. As long as you pick another 245 tire, its going to be roughly the same width as the 245 that you already have. The difference between a 245/45 and a 245/40 is that the sidewall is 1/2" thinner on the 245/40, hence the smaller overall diameter. It may create the "illusion" of being wider, but it won't be.

Most tire manufacturers recommend a minimum rim width of 9" for a 275/40-17. The exception is Dunlop, who recommends 8.5" - 11" for that size tire. They should probably be OK, but might look a little "bulgey" on a narrow rim.
