Thumbs up ? about painting rear piece

Whats up guys. I got a question about painting the back piece on my 95 Z that has the CAMARO lettering and goes between the taillights. I am sure you have all seen a car with this done. I have a silver Z and want to paint this piece gloss black. My question is, how do I keep the CAMARO lettering silver. I know you can get those vinyl inserts but I would rather not use vinyl. Any ideas. Also, if anyone has pics of a car that has this done, let me see them. Thanks.

I did this to my white Z. In my opinion painted silver wouldn't be close to the stainless inserts like he is talking about. I got mine from SS inserts, but SS inserts and MBA are both sponsors here. You might be able to get a group purchas started if you talk to them. That is how I got mine.

The weather is really bad here and my car is filthy. I am going to take some pictures of it when I can clean it up. I will post or email a few to you so you can see what it looks like. If I haven't posted back here by next weekend, post again or email me a reminder. I really like the black panel, and the SS inserts make it look like it is supposed to be that way. It kind of looked like someone forgot to paint it until I put them in.

Good luck

thats easy as hell to do. all you do is tape off the lettering and paint the piece then pull off the tape and clear the whole thing

I have vinyl inserts and no problems here and look very natural.

Hey thanks guys. I had another idea. I might try to get really thin pin striping and go around the inside of the letters. then paint it black and pull the pin striping out. That way I would have a black panel with black letters that have silver outlines. Might be cool, I will have to see.

get some bondo,
grease up the letters,
pour in the bondo into all letters and let it dry,
take the letters out and clean off the grease,
put the letters back in place and sand them down to match the panel, you have to sand the panel anyway to paint it.
clean it all up again.
place the letters in and paint, let the paint dry and then remove the letters.
sell the letters to someone else who wants to do the same thing to get some money back.

it's a lot more work but it beats spending $50 for steel inserts and it will look more professional, although I've seen the steel inserts and they do look damn good.

The silver outlines might be cool see if you can have someone make a photo of what it would look like.
