69 camaro heat problem, melting really

i have a problem with my domelight. The bulb (211-2) is getting real hot and melting the plastic domelight housing. i tried to find a different bulb and can't find one that fits. My next step is find a heat tape to keep the heat away from the plastic housing, still no luck.

i just bought some gasket stuff and think i am gonna try to place some form-a-gasket in the housing as a heat coating.

anyideas, i am sure that other people have had this problem

help!

This is sometimes caused by corrosion on the wires or bulb contacts causing a high amperage draw. Check to see if the fuse has a higher then normal rating, ie., 15 amp instead of 5 amp, usually a dead giveaway. Good Luck,

interesting enough i did change the contacts becauser they were rusted out . in order to change the whole harness i would have had to remove the headliner and i didn't want to do that. so i cut the new harness' clips and replaced those. it is still melting the unit. sounds like i am going to have to get more into this than i thoguht. not a quick fix by any means.

now i gotta figure out how the wiring harness attaches to the car and how to route it with out taking the headliner out.
