245 or 275?

Today I decided to buy some Boyd Coddington 17 X 8 smoothie 2's. Which tire with would be better and why? Any help is appreciated.

I'm not too sure how a 275 would fit on an 8" wide wheel. No more options such as 255 or 265?

Edit: as far as which I'd go with, I choose for the wider tire, as it will look better, and give you a bit more traction.

The only options given by tires.com was 275/40 or 245/45

Well if they say that the 275's will fit I'd go for those.

I know what you mean; I was never big on spending money on things that won't make my car faster. I bought them from tires.com with a wheel/tire package. I got Eagle F1's and new lug nuts with locking kit with the wheels for a total of $1641 with free shipping mounting, and balancing.

There's a difference between fitting a tire, and fitting a tire properly. Every tire manufacturer lists acceptable wheel widths, and generally 275 needs at minimum, a 9" wheel. Check out tire manufacturer sites when you find a few tires you'd like to consider.

Yeah thats what I was wondering. I work in a tire shop, but I forgot to check the minimum needed for a 275. I know the actual 275 will fit the car no prob because I have 275/40ZR18's, but thats on a 9.5" wheel.

Yup according to Goodyear's site, the recommended wheel width range for the 275 F1 is 9"-11".

You might wanna stick with 245s

Agreed. I use tirerack to look up to see what the tire maker recommends...

I have 245 on my 8" wide rims...
