18x12 mini tubbing

I was thinking of trying to put some 18x12 or 13 in the back. Has anyone tried this before. I think the only way of doing this is mini tubbing it. I also seen this done to a Impala to make 18x12 fit but he had to cut the frame in order to do this. It seems kind of dangerous.

Seems kind of dangerous to me but is it?

This pic I like the best.

Those tires are 335/30-18. Can or should this be done to a F-Body?

If it's done right, it's fine, although you are weakening the frame somewhat... he did do it the right way by boxing in the frame afterwards. I would also have reinforced the other side of the frame as well, if I would have done it, just to be on the safe side.

It can be done to our cars, although I don't know how much work it would involve, probably quite a bit, you'd also have to relocate the rear shocks, becasue I KNOW you'd nail those pretty good with that wide of a tire.

looks really cool, I wish it was that easy with the F-body, and I agree I would have ran more steel over the whole thing and probablymade the cut angle at the end instead of doing a 90 deg to help alleviate stress cracks over time

I wonder how bad if at all handeling would be affected when moving shocks inboard
