17x11's on the back of an LT1 vert. Possible?
I would realy like to get a pair of the AFS 17x11 ZR1 wheels with 315 tires on the back of my convertible. But AFS says they will only fit hardtops. Is this realy true or can they be made to fit?.

Not sure, what back space are they telling you? Did they give specific problem areas, such as inner fender, outer lip, etc.? Brent addresses the back spacing issue on http://www.bfranker.badz28.com/96ss/11inchzr1.htm
But that is on his hard top car. I could swear someone is LV-F-Body has 11" ZR-1's on a drop top. Are you part of the club?

AFS claims that with the standard camaro 17x11 ZR1 backspacing there are rubbing issues on the inside part of the wheel well on the LT1 verts because the trunk storage area is designed differently than the hardtops. I know there are vert guys that have them also and im looking for some of them to chime in and describe what they had to do to make them fit or any issues they might have had. I went to an LV-Fbody meet a while back and have been meaning to go again.
A friend of mine had real GM Grand Sport (50mm offset) 17x11's on his 1997 30th Anniv. SS convertible. They appeared to fit BETTER than the same size AFS replica wheel did on my 94 coupe. I spent a lot of time under his convertible, massaging the wheel wells for 28x10.5-15W ET Drags (also same tires I run on my car) and his wheel well configuration was no different than my coupe, as far as I could see.
There was a difference INSIDE the sheet metal surfaces... extra bracing, or perhaps added parts for the seat back and top well, but they were not affecting the wheel well itself, only the amount of pounding necessary to fit the huge slicks in.

I have AFS 11 inch rims on my TA.
I had to do some pounding but no different from a coupe.
I have NO idea why AFS continues to suggest after all these years that the verts are different.
I even send them a picture of my car that was / i on there own rides section.
