Unhappy The weirdest sound coming from the front of my LT1..please listen and post ideas.

Please do not move this to LT1 Tech. I dont have enough bandwitch on my site to let everyone download the video file.

Here are some specs on the car: 355 LT1, CLoyes True Roller Timing Chain, Electric WaterPump, Custom cam, ported heads etc.

Anyways, watch the video, it speaks for itself. The noise it not really that loud, the camera makes it seem a lot worse then it is.

Here is what i know: Does it with the belt ON or OFF, Electric Waterpump ON or OFF. Took the timing cover off and the chain does not rub on the timing cover. There are no metal shavings in the oil. Motor has 600 miles on it. Oil pressure is great, and the car runs great. The noise goes away after 1k or so, not sure if you cant hear it anymore over the exhaust etc or it goes away.
The noise is coming from the front of the engine.

Please help!!!
Marcin

My Edelbrock Hi Tech timing set make a simular noise only not as loud.

I have the car torn down right now so i can't get any thing to compare now. If it is not touching any where and the opti bearing is not going out Not sure what to say. The cam thrust plate should keep it from hitting the block.

Keep us up to date

Could it be possible that the starter is still engaded. My car sounded similar when the two wires touched and the car was running couldn't hear it except for a faint whine when at higher rpms, tough.

Have you taken the belt off and spun the alt, the teninsor, and power streering pump by hand..? Do they feel rough like a bad bearing?
Is the power steering pump full, were the lines removed and if so did you bleed the pump of air in that system?

it does it with the belt off as well..so that rules out all the accesories.

ok guys..i think i found the problem. The timing gear that bolts up to the cam is rubbing on the cam plate. Any ideas why, and what should i do next? Do you guys think that is the noise we are hearing?

I think that looks fairly normal. That looks more like scuffing than rubbing. My cam retainer had similar scuff marks. If you can actually feel a groove there, that might be a different matter.

I belive the pocket on the opti that the cam dowel pin recives into is .320 deep and the dowel should be around .285 long. Yours look much longer in the pics. New CAM?
If the dowels to long it will cause excessive pressure on the opti.
Hows the opti spin in your hand?
Bearing feel ok?

Theres three areas on the retainer that show up as not normal to me under the left bolt on the 2nd picture. Was the cam gear seated properly on the cam?
could it have been cocked?
Just questions bro, good luck.

How much end play dose the cam have as it sits in those pictures?
Did the cam plug on the back of the block get changed and was it set up with the proper clearance?
