Want to build a 500hp motor...

I only need 450hp, but I'd like 500. Is it reasonable to get this out of a 350c.i. or do I need to stroke it out to 383?

Also, which base do I need or does it matter? (LS6, LT1, etc.)

Hey Kurt,

Well it depends what are you starting with? Any vehicle engine in particular? Is this going to stay n/a or be a FI or nitrous motor? Please give some more details and we can provide your answer.

PS. This question should be in another forum, but i dont know where to move it yet, so ill let you give us some more info.

Thanks.

No, don't move it to another forum. It's going to get very technical. I am getting ready to do a rebuild and want to be guided through it.

Anyway, I'm going to buy a 1993-2002 camaro after I finish that has no motor.

It is going to be normally aspirated fuel injection. I want it to be ready to have nitrous put on in case I change my mind. I want to do a tear down before the rebuild. Plus, it will be good to know I don't have to get a new ecu system with rails and all that stuff.

That's about it for now. My first step is purchasing a motor. I want to get a used motor that is ready to run (with intake manifold and fuel rails, injections, ecu, etc.)

My only borders are:
-want to get alright fuel mileage (that's why i'm going with injectors instead of carb)
-don't want to have to run over 93 octane

You really need to narrow down what you are going to put it in. The LT1 and LS1 are quite different in regards to dimensions, motor mounts/K-members, radiator, weight, drivetrain, fuel system, etc. Trying to stuff an LS1 into a 93-97 will present a lot of extra costs, and trying to stuff an LT1 into a 98+ would be.... well.... irrational.

Pick an engine/chassis, and post the question under the correct forum. There are "LT1 Tech" and "LS1Tech" forums, and that is where your question belongs.

No because I didn't mean only ls1 and lt1 only. I meant out of all motors I can choose from, which would be optimal for what I want. Costwise and durability wise. Basically, I don't want to spend anymore than I have to, but I want good stuff that is close enough to being the best stuff, but isn't near the top of the scale at all on price.

In case you still don't have my point. I'm going to have the guys here guide me through the rebuild, to make sure I do things the best way judging by what I have learned from each group of individuals who take a side. I'm not just looking for an answer to a question. I just want to be guided through the whole project, and as things come along, I want to keep everything updated.

I find it odd that your only 3 posts are in this thread.

Have you used the Search feature yet? You can get an easy 450-500hp from an LT1 or LS1 on motor. Heck, get a blower and your basic bolt-ons, and you'll be there.

I'd like to help, but your question is too open ended. As was suggested, you really need to decide on the year 4th gen you will be getting. If it's an LT1 car, you'd best stick with the LT1 and the same for an LS1 car. Once you decide on that, you should post to either LT1 or LS1 Tech. People come the "Advanced Tech" to discuss advanced tech.

If you want EFI and fuel milage along with a 500hp motor than it would make ore sense to do a LS1 with a heads cam package. That should get you all you need. A SBC or a LT1 are at a disadvantage in terms of fuel mileage and EFI.

And what you don't seem to understand is that teaching people how to rebuild a motor is NOT the purpose of the "Advanced Tech" forum. A 450-500HP engine, whether its a Gen 1, Gen 2, or a Gen 3 SBC is not a "technical challenge".... people are doing it every day. And from the way you have stated the question, for all we know you are willing to consider a BBC, maybe a 351W or a Poncho with Big Chief heads..... of how about one of these.......

As has been suggested... do a search of the various tech forums to see what's hot and what's not. Go to your local B&N and spend some time looking through the "automotive" section for books on specific platforms (e.g. LT1, LS1, SBC) and specific topics like rebuilding, blueprints, "heads & cam", etc.

When you have formulated your approach and have some specifics in mind, and not just a broad question like you have now, you can use the correct tech forum to debate the details. Until then we need to lock this.
