vavle lift: lobe vs rocker arm?

Every time I see someone talking about getting more valve lift out of the cam I see all the engine builders say to get the desired valve lift grinded into the cam instead of using more rocker ratio. Why? I dont understand the difference. Is there an advantage to having in ground into the cam as to using the rocker arm make up the lift?

Thanks
Jeremy

I have heard that also. Seems to me that if you let the rocker arm add to the lift then that is less wear on the lifters caused by the increased lift on the cam lobe.
