Re: Valve spring Lock gaps

Not to highjack the thread, but is there an easy way to tell the difference between a 10 degree lock and a 7 degree. I sure it's pretty easy for some that see them alot.

Care to explain, for those of us who aren't fortunate enough to see them every day?

Re: Valve spring Lock gaps

A seven degree is your standard valve lock. If you have ever seen or held any gm factory lock you now know what a seven degree looks like. A 10 degree is a thick beefy piece that is approximately twice the width and thickness of a seven degree lock. 10 degree locks require their own special retainers that you will usually not find on stock diameter or slightly larger hyd. roller type springs. There is no confusing stock and 10 degree hardware. The wrench in the machine is the SUPER 7 lock. The super 7 locks share the same large size as a 10 degree but have a 7 degree angle for more clamping force on the valve stem. The easiest way for the untrained eye to spot this is to place the two differing retainers on a plate, straight edge, etc. and hold them at eye level. The ten degree will be slightly taller from the plate to the outside edge.
