Valve spring Lock gaps

Ive been sent wrong parts before, Just have to double check this one.

The gap between my locks looks big to me (measured .068" total, or .034 on each side between locks). I dont know if its just because its a bigger retainer and different brand locks that I am not used to seeing or what, but my K motions fit was much tighter.

11/32 valves, should be 11/32 locks too. Valves are up because its an -050 lock.

Looks normal to me. Once you define the valve stem diameter and the angle of the locks (7 or 10 degree) that's pretty much all there is to it, aside from any +-050 installed height funkyness you may desire.

They are the right part, but Ive had stuff be the right part number and the part itself if packaged wrong.

Just odd to me that they dont fit as tightly as others I have seen.

Those are correct for machined locks. The stamped hardened ones are usually a little tighter, but that gap looks perfectly normal to me and I see them everyday.

Re: Valve spring Lock gaps

that'll work fine.

Are they all like that? If not, then try switching some that have thinner gaps with those to even things out a bit.

Machined locks have to be sawed in two after machining. It looks liks a .064 thick saw, which is a common size might have been used. The +.050 locks I looked at today appear to have been made that way.

OK thanks guys, that is reassuring.

I had already called crower tech line before posting, but I trust some of the opinions here more than a yahoo on the phone, you just never know who you are really talking to.

Once again, thank you all.

BTW, im sure most of you know, but doing triple SR springs on the car under the cowel on LT1 = Got them all on, but it was a half day job. I remember thinking my k-800s were a pain, lol.

Re: Valve spring Lock gaps

I had a faulty lock from Comp.

They sent me four back in return next day delivery.

You might want to take that option, but yours aren't too bad compared to
mine.

Once again, some mighty fine quality control from Comp Cams.
