Could you cut and weld the intake without having to mod the cowl so much? Would this starve the rear cylinders or just lessen the volume?

As you can see Mike machined the fins off the top of the Plenum. They are roughly 7/16" tall IIRC. I don't know if he cut some length off of the "Tunnels" to get the plenum box to sit lower or not though.

What do you mean by cut and weld the intake? The Tunnels (base manifold)? Or the Plenum box?

so what all is needed to modifiy the intake to make it fit, the cowl is no problem i dont fear doing a little cutting.

Mike,

Dave does Gen 7 stuff for sure. They're mostly Mustang guys but I don't hold that against them

Mike, I'll be interested in the results once you get it done.

Shame. You need to go old school with a nice 421 and some 18 degree Brodix heads.

Mine's more of a slow work in progress.

I don't know if he is thinking the same thing I think when I think of fitting that intake under the hood of my lt1, but If he and I are on the same page , he may be refering to cutting and welding the back of the box/rectangular plenum.

I am thinking of having the back part of the "box" that sticks under the cowl cut at an angle and having metal welded there so that it will "slant" downward under the cowl so that it will fit. I don't mind a cowl hood or other aftermarket hood (plan to get one anyway) to clear the part of the intake closer to the front of the car that would be left the height as it came from HOLLEY, but I have a daily driver, so I don't want to cut the cowl.

So basically , I am saying just have someone cut , and angle the manifold down in the back so it will fit under the cowl overhang.

Maybe that's what he meant? Or at least thats what i mean. LOL

RPM

That's what I did on Mikes.... It needs even more than that now, but it's not too hard to do so.

Hell I just need something to drive around to get motors from here and there that has some *****. I figure with a LS1 and a T56 it will be like the Camaro up and down all the hills around here and still get some sort of gas mileage.

True, but an LT1 is easier to fit in an S10.

I play with enough LT1's! Plus the Al block will be nice and I don't have to do much to the motor to get power out of it.

Take a look at this picture and you will see that Bret already did that on mine.

Unfortunately this was not enough clearance, and I don't think you could cut any more without causing some problems with airflow into the rear cylinders.

Take a look at the picture below. It gives a better view of just how far under the cowl the manifold actually goes.

Also, this was not a cheap project by any means. The manifold cost $300, and the fuel rails were another $200 (stock fuel rails will not work) And even though I think Bret gave me a pretty good deal considering the amount of time he put it to the manifold, he still charged me $500 for the work he did. That's a total of $1000. I guess bottom line is this: Until I find out how much HP, if any, I've gained, I'm not sure whether it was worth the money.

Question, why is it that you guys cramming the HSR into a 4th gen are using a dizzy? I'd love to get rid of it completely and use a 95+ vented opti or an LTCC setup. Why not just plug the hole?
