Post Strange 12 bolt Help pt 2!!

Okay, here it goes. I got a Strange 12 bolt through a Tom Byrne group purchase. I asked Tom if I was getting an Eaton unit, I was told by one of the employee's, (not Tom) that I was in fact going to be getting the Eaton unit. Well, come April, my 12 bolt arrives, in a very nicely made crate. I paint it, fit it up sometime in Late April. I don't get around to driving on it until late May, I put approximately (I don't have the car here, so I don't know the exact mileage) 200 - 250 miles on it, just back and forth to a couple of club meetings. On the way back from the last club meeting, July 26, I hear something very unusual from the rearend, under decel only. Okay.. So I take it to the gear specialist here in San Diego (Pro Gear), they take it apart and tell me that I have a standard US Gear (Torquelite) differential unit, that was the first surprise. Second, he tells me that the diff came apart and one of the clutchpack clips went up and damaged the pinion gear. Okay, so very, unhappy, I call up Strange, and they basically tell me "Tough Luck. You can send us the unit to see if there was a fault in craftsmanship...", so my guy at Pro Gear ships them the pinion and differential with detailed instructions/reasons why the differential came apart. Tracy from Strange calls me and tell me that, I got on it too hard, that the Torquelite isn't meant to handle much horsepower.. Umm.. Hello?!?! I just paid $2200 for a rearend that was supposed to handle some more power than a standard 10 bolt. Being a lowly LT1, I'm only pushing 402 rwhp to the ground, I've had 10 bolts last longer than this thing did, hell even raced a few times on a 10 bolt in the current configuration and had it last a long time. So basically, I'm screwed. The thing is, I never got on it, I wanted this to last, so I was breaking it in the way that the instruction told me to.

What I want to know, is if anyone else has, or is having the same type of problem from their Strange 12 bolt. Please do let me know.

I may have to get litigious and call the BBB.. This is ridiculous to say the least.

Thanks for reading,

YES we had the EXACT same problem on Jimbobs car. SECOND If you were told(and paid for) a Eaton then they ripped you off.

This is the MOST common complaint from the Strange unit. They are using cheap parts and they are not lasting. That diff. should hold up just fine but it is in fact a POS!

WORST part is you HAVE to buy the replacment from Strange or your ABS won't work.

MAYBE you should put out to all Strange owners and start a class action suit

Good Luck!

Was that supposed to be the "super strength" posi? That's what I am supposed to have.... can you, or your gear shop tell me what I have based on this picture:

That was the replacement unit that Strange sent me after they forgot to put the ABS ring on the original unit.

I haven't had any problems with mine, and I know the only problem George Baxter had was when the clutches in the "standard" 9-disc unit burned up at about the 750crankHP level. He took the replacement "super strength" unit to about 900HP, before replacing it with a 9-inch. Never any problems.

That is the HD Eaton Fred. the other one is a bolt together with all the clutches on one side

So far I love my Moser with Eaton HD...and the first place win I got with it the first race I drove

Welp.. Something must have worked.. Because they called me up this morning, and aside from buying the Heavy Duty differential (for actually cheaper than they sell them in Summit), they're going to cover everything else.. Ring and Pinion and Labor.. So JOY!
