std. 1.7 roller rockers?

std. 1.7 roller rockers?

Are there any companies that manufacture standard roller rockers in 1.7 ratio for small block chevy motors? I know they are available in shaftmount form (which is what I may just end up doing), but Phil Tobin's webpage says he is running 1.7s on the intake side of his 403ci solid roller.

Just wondering....did many searches on yahoo/google but came up with nothing for SBC. The link on Phil's page under the 1.7 rockers takes you to Crower's webpage, but I dont see anything there that is non-shaftmount.

I may just end up selling my rockers/studgirdle and going with some shftmounts...

Check with Jesel. I saw a prototype set of Jesel 1.7 roller rockers (not shaft) on a 94 T/A LT1 more than 5 years ago. They were being run on a car built by Truppi-King High Performance out of Greenbrook, NJ. I believe TKHP did some dyno work for Jesel over the years.

Thanks Fred...i checked Jesel's website but like Crower's, they all seem to be shaftmounts.

What about 1.65rr's. I didn't think that you could even run those without tall valve covers and moving you alternator. how could you run 1.7's?? I would love to run some 1.65's or even 1.7's.

Jason, I just put a 383 together for our 97SS and used the T&D shaft mounted rockers W/1.6s & 1.7s . Not only are they a very nice setup but you get spring oilers w/ them. If you are going to run hard you may want to consider them. You can veiw them here. Mike Blackstone did the work on our LT4 383 also. I will be installing it in the spring.

1.7 ratio Crane Gold Race Aluminum rocker arms.
Crane #11754-16 for the 3/8 studs.
Crane #11751-16 for the 7/16 studs.
They are listed on Crane's web page.

Try contacting Jesel directly. Mike Truppi at TK High Performance showed my the Jesels, and offered to have a set made for $1,300.... which I thought was sort of ridiculous. The T&D's would be my preference for that kind of $$$$. But they might still be willing to make them, and the price might be lower if they have made a few sets over the years.

Fred, i will try that too....for that kinda money though shaftmounts are the clear choice for me!

What about the problem with the valve cover clearence. Can you run 1.65's or 1.7's without moving the alternator and getting taller valve covers? Someone must know the answer!!

Not sure man, 1.65s mabye. This discussion assumes that tall valvecovers are already being used.

I understand that tall valve covers are being used, but what are you guys doing with the alternator. I have heard that taller valve covers cannot be ran without either denting the valve cover or relocating the alternator. I would need to keep my alternator in the stock location as this is a street car!

i just put the alternator on the bottom of the motor...

as for 1.7 rockers/shafts, Cam Motion very strongly recommended for me to run no more than 1.6s on a SBC, and have your cam ground accordingly. maybe you should call them and see why they dont like 1.7 rockers/shafts on a SBC?

What is the particular reason you want 1.7s? Could you not get the cam grind you wanted or do you just want to keep your current cam, but want a little more lift?

If it were me I would run 1.6s and a cam to match to get the desired valve lift...cams are usually cheaper anyway.
