Question Sm. base circle cam?

Like the title says, do I need a sm b/c cam with 3.75" eagle 4340 cr., eagle 6" h-beam rods and -16cc srp pistons? Comp cams says yes, Lazer cams says no, which is it? I'm going to use the 224/236 high lift 114+4 hyd roller by the way (L98 block).

Thanks, Steve

Yes if you don't want to do any clearancing on the rods. No if you want to do more machine work.

Whenever building something like with overlength con rods, it's always best to use a small base circle cam. This also means you're going to need some pushrod checkers to order some custom length pushrods. I just put a small base circle cam into my BBC and needed to get much longer pushrods. The taller installed height springs didn't help much either.

I had to go with a small base circle with a similar set-up (except larger cam) I have the Scat 4340 crank and Scat H-Beams. Most H-beam strokers will need a small base circle (unless its an aftermarket block with a raised camshaft location)

Yes you will have to get a small base circle cam.. I ran into the same problem with my 383 LT1 with a Probe Industries rotating assembly. Also I dont know when you need it by, but I may have a cam for sale pretty soon here. It is a billet Comp Cams small base circle cam. The specs on it are 227/234 duration @.050 and .587/.600lift at valve with 1.6 rockers on a 113 LSA. I will be swapping in a new Isky 234/236 duration @.050 cam with a bit smaller lift on a 112 LSA.

I need more power, and Im not worried about smog, so the cam I have is a bit too small for me now. Let me know if your interested. Im planning on swapping the cams either Thanksgiving or Christmas time.. Depending on my schedule (1 full time job and 1 part time job.)

Good luck with whatever!

Mike
