A solid lifter cam has ramps designed to take up the slack created by any clearance remaining at operating temperatures. If you were committed to trying these, you should consider trying a solid roller type cam.

This is a clever idea that in the end works only for the very specific situation of a "vacuum rule" race class. Kind of like a very early attempt at variable valve timing.

Sounds like I have my answer. These aren't intended for the street. Presumably, any other method of accomplishing variable vale timing with an LT1/LT4 are too expensive to make it worth the bother? As in, if variable vale timing is what you're after, throw out the LT1 and start with something else.

i just removed my rhoads when i put my etp heads on my ls1. i wanted to see if they were really doing anything. Well they WERE. Yes they were noisey which is the only reason i removed them. My idle tune was nowhere close after removing the rhoads....i lost a little bottom end and mileage without the rhoads so they do indeed work. I ran mine for 10,000 miles. My car weighs 4040# streetweight with 3.08 gears and 2400 stall so the bottom end loss is noticeable. my experience....yours may vary.

Any signs of unusual wear?

Dyno numbers are nothing impressive, can have the same or more HP with more torque with a smaller cam, then again the track is the only real test.

Not sure I'll get to the track with it this year. Kinda doubt it. In any event, I don't have a roll cage, a drive-shaft loop or a dry cell battery . . . so I'm guessing they'd kick me out shortly after the first run anyway.

You think it will go 11.4?????? which is rollBAR territory, think 13.9 or sticky tires is the driveshaft loop, never heard of a battry requirement other than a cutoff for trunk mounts.

The battery is in the trunk and no I don't have a cut-off switch. The last time I was at the strip (they had a street/tuning night that a friend and I went to) they told me not to run again after I broke 13's. That was with street tires. I understood the cage was required below 13's or ~110mph.

Anyway, I would be interested to have rskrause's question to cablebandit answered regarding the wear on the lifters . . .

roll bar is 11.99 or under nhra 11.49 or under.

If they wouldn't let you run after a 13 sec run I would guess you didn't have a helmet.
