Rev kit & roller cam in old block???
I asked at the local machine shop, but got no answers. I have a block thats pre 85. How does a Rev kit work on these blocks without the bosses in the block for the screws? Also, how can I use a roller cam (like for an 87 IROC) in this older block? If it can't be done, I guess I'm screwed, glued, and tattoed because the block was bought already assembled (355) and I don't have the money to have my old block done up. Thanx for the help. Chris
Re: Rev kit & roller cam in old block???
Ya get the retro kit from Crane.
If wa are real careful and tape up everything but where ya are drilling and use grease on the drill and tap it'll be OK.Blow it out real good after ya are finished.
A rev kit fits on top of the lifter to a locater plate under the ledge of the head,it uses no screws but won't hold your lifters in line ya need the guide bars.

Re: Rev kit & roller cam in old block???
In addition to what the Dude said, you cannot use a roller cam from an 87 iroc, you need to use a retrofit cam because the late model uses a thrust plate like the fords always have to control cam movement. The front snout of the cam for a factory roller cam block has a stepped snout. You need to get a regular roller cam and use a thrust button setup, I like the timing chain sets that have a torington bearing to save the thrust face on the block.

MachinistOne is correct, use a retrofit roller cam and lifters. You can't use the newer style setup in your older block. With the retrofit setup there is no drilling for the cam, lifters or rev kit. I've got roller cams in both of my old cars.

I've already got the cam and a set of roller lifters.
It's not a factory cam, but I'm pretty sure it was cut for a block like the one in the IROC.
