if all i have to do is disconnet the driveshaft and pull the c-pin and take the drums and backing plate off... and then slide it out and put the new one in. Then put the stuff back on,would i need new brake lines too.... can someone help and give me the step by step and what i would need to replace, if anything???

Well if the carrier in the rear is from an LS1 car it is a bit easier since the c-clips are more basic to get to. All you have to do is take out the small diameter bolt that is holding in a block dead center in the carrier. Once you take that out just push the axles towards the carrier and the c-clips will likely fall out. Have fun finding them sometimes they fall in hard to reach spots.

If it is an LT1 carrier you will need to knock out a dowel pin in the center. It will be about four inches long and 1/2" thick. After that same procedure as above.

As for the brake lines just take the old ones off and put the new ones on and bleed the brake system.

There is circumstances where some parts between the two generations of axles and carriers will not work properly together. You are stating that it is a 3.42 so i assume it is a LS1 carrier. I cannot remember off the top of my head if the axles are the correct length if you use your old LT1 axles. I have seen it rub on brakes and other parts due to spacing.

I've always went with this:

3.23s and lower in A4 cars
3.42s in M6 cars

Usually it's correct.

First, this is not "Advanced Tech", and should not have been posted here.

Second, the post is confusing... the subject says "replacing axles", and I thought you just wanted to find out how to pull the c-clips to replace the axles (only). But then you mention dropping the driveshaft and replacing brake lines, and the whole rear axle assembly... then when more info comes out, appears you are swapping the entire rear end assembly into a 95, even though your signature says 94... not that it makes a lot of difference, but it's confusing as he!!. Or maybe you are just swapping carriers????

Suggestion - clarify what you are trying to do.... then repost it on the correct forum.
