Quick oil pressure problem question...
Quick oil pressure problem question...
Got in a race tonight and afterwards, my oil pressure was about zero. Think it was like that for about a 1/4 mile or so. Parked it and then later on in the evening, started it back up and I had pressure. About 25lbs which is normal, but now, the pressure no longer reacts when the rpm's increase like it used to. It almost doesn't move at all. Haven't noticed any weird noises from the engine or any smoke, but know that something has happened internal to cause this. Don't believe its a gauge or sender issue. Possible oil pump issue maybe? Anyone out there have any suggestions? Engine has 90k and is original pump and bottom end. Am planning a 383 build, and am thinking maybe it's time to just eat it and do it now cause of this issue. But i'm curious about this problem. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

One of the things I can think of that would cause the oil pressure not to increase is the pressure relief spring in the pump has broke or fallen out.... but since you lost all of the pressure at one point there is no telling what the issues are. Sounds like a 355 or 383 is coming soon.

no then you would have no oil pressure numb nutz.... good try on a dig, at least I have the experience to know about that. It's really sad how petty you are. lol
BTW the only reason anyone knows about that is because I came out and sad it.... first rule of being a man is to admit your mistakes. You'll figure that one out a few years after your pubes come in.

Re: Quick oil pressure problem question...
put a mechanical oil pressure gauge on it. Sometimes the little diaphragm starts to take a **** and it'll do that same thing. Seen a couple where the pickup came off. One was on a 70k mile motor in an SS.

JNJ,
We all know your games.

Re: Quick oil pressure problem question...
I would absolutly check it w/ another gauge. It won't take long and I have seen motors pulled based on oil pressure probs that turned out to be simple things.
Re: Quick oil pressure problem question...
Yeah, I was gonna put another sender in to make sure it wasn't something simple like that. I've been wanting to drop in a 383 blower/nos setup and I guess i'm just looking for an excuse. Even a bad sender. "Uhhhhh, oil sender is bad. WELL, looks like I need a 383!!".

My thought is you probably wiped a bearing. Letting the engine sit a while will allow the oil to cool and become a little thicker, so when you started the engine you would build some pressure. I'm betting if you ran it a while the pressure would be back to zero once the oil gets hot.
