Questions on putting the motor back in??

Right now the engine is in the final assembly. Here are some of the parts going off of memory that we will be using:

Eagle 4340 Crank

(brand?) Forged H-beam Rods

Hardened pushrods

Manley Valves (2.02 size?)

Harland Sharp Roller Rockers (1.6 intake, 1.5 exhaust)

Trick Flow heads ( Not ported in the pics yet)

Stock Block ported .060 over (Do I have that size right?)

JE/SRP Flat Top Pistons

I'm sure I'm forgetting something too!

Now that I'm in this phase I wonder if any of you experienced guys have any pointers on what order to do things or any words of encouragement? Since I'm doing long tube headers it seems that I will have to wait to do wires until the motor is in the car since the headers will need to go on before the wires. (OTVC style)

I like the idea of doing as much assembly as I can before the motor gets put back in. I'm not sure of what all I can do before it goes in. I wish it would go in with the headers on!

What do you guys think????

Pointers, Ideas, etc.......?

From the way your talking, it sounds like you pulled the motor from the top. If so, you would be better putting it back in from the bottom. That way you can fully dress the motor including the spark wires and headers.

The first time I rebuilt an fbody motor I yanked it out from the top. (Old man, old ways). The second time I tried it from the bottom. Let me tell ya, That's the only way to go.

I love the idea of fully dressing the motor while it's out of the car. You can do a much nicer job with the wires.

Just get a Happy Hooker and put it back the way ya took it out.It bolts to the fuel rail bolts on the intake.
Leave the front acc's off and the balancer and the plugs and wires. Lay the plug wires on the valve cover. Wire your headers back out of the way and bolt the tranny(which should be in the car) and motor mounts up first. Then put your headers on and go about hooking up everything.

Totally agree with doing a 4th gen from the bottom. FAR easier if you have access to a lift. Even if you don't, it is probably preferable.

Re: Questions on putting the motor back in??

Thanks, guys. You're right I did take it out from the top. If you looked at the link in the first post on page two you will see it hooked, tranny and all.

Going in from the bottom sounds like a good idea due to the fact that everything can be put together first.

I'll check out the link.
