go with a set of forged piston and i would also go with forged rods and crank

when i built my 383 i went with JE pistons (10.3:1) and 6.0" Eagle rods with a Eagle 4340 forged 3.750 stroke crank

it is a stout short block costing me $3000

well, im just wondering why you spent $3,000 on a shortblock thats good for 2x the power your making....
thats an expensive motor to only make ~400rwhp.
are you planning alot of nitrous in the future?

gixXxinRS, go with the forged pistons. To get 420 HP out of a 383 you shouldn't need coatings (unless maybe you plan on huge amounts of nitrous). Put that money into a good cam/intake combination.

afr 220

The AFR 220 I think are maybe just a little bit of overkill. What are you planning to do with this just strictly out on the strip cause when I talked to them I am doin an 800 horse blower/stroker they told me anything bbigger than 195cc was overkill.

the afr 220's would be good for a n/a 383 turning alot of rpm's. basically a race motor, like you said. when i say alot of rpms i mean shifting around 7k or higher.
