oil vent tubes in lifter vally

in the lifter vally there is 6 holes in the middle for the oil to drain in to the motor and 4 at the end, for a street motor is it worth anything to tap the 6 holes and put the vent tubes in, so the oil will drain at the ends of the block, and not directly on the crank , is this somthing not worth doing ,or will it hurt some internal parts of the motor?

On a race motor this is worth a little HP, but on a street motor you will probably kill the cam lobes.

I did it to mine, you'll have to cut the vent tubes down so the spider pan that holds the lifter tabs in place will clear.

i always thought you could only use them on a solid type cam?

if you have a hydraulic i was told you can't use them

I believe you're thinking of oil restrictors, which are installed in the back of the block and limit the amount of oil sent to the lifters and rockers.

Vent tubes are installed in the lifter valley to keep the oil that's already in the top end from draining back over the cam, reducing parasitic losses and crank case pressure.

ditto what jim said.

limiting drainback at the cam won't cause you any problems. the cam bearings are pressure fed, as are the lifters. only time it may be a problem is with a flat tappet but there are special preperation for competition builds that have to use them.

Man, you guys take pictures of everything!!

You can also get breathers from CV Products that do not have the hex-head, that will clear.
