Oil pump concensus(sp?)

no gasket goes between the pump and block, just the pan and block.


If you really want to know about melling pumps, just stop in at www.nastyz28.com and visit the high performance message board and the engine topic message boards.!!!

Melling pumps are JUNK!!! like said, they sieze up, wear fast and create problems, usually ending up in a destroyed bottom end!!!

Go with Moroso and a bolt on pickup tube.

get a HV pump with stock spring settings, if you do modify the pressure, only increase it to 65psi, usually HP pumps run about 100 psi, thats too much and not needed, 10psi per 1000 rpms is more than adequate with a chevy.

high pressure suck horse power down, high volume doesnt.

ive had 3 melling HV pumps have severe wear problems or sieze up, all within 6-12 months of operation!!!
i have several friends that have had melling pump failures also!!

Go Moroso my friend and dont look back!!!

I know....... I just thought it was important to note that when you're trying to get between .250"-.375" clearance, the .175" thickness of the pan gasket needs to be taken into account.

I've had good luck with the Melling pumps. I used about 70 of them last year alone without issues.

Haven't purchased their blueprinted pump, but, if you prefer not to 'massage' the end clearance and add the balancing grooves yourself, I'd say it would be the way to go. On an aftermarket pump, the machining is generally better quality and expect the gear clearance, (between the gears) to be 'tighter' compared to those in the oem pump. This alone, (without the stronger spring) will give you more pressure. However, this is NOT to say that the 'white' spring substitution is not recommended.
