Oil problem?
Mod: i posted in the other section, and had no help. It has also stumped several shops....
So, i'm running at 250 degrees (engine oil) lately, and can't figure out why. And thats at 70 on the freeway. At stop and go speeds it cools down to about 210-220. I just changed the oil recently (mobil 1 5w30 synthetic). I do have an oil temp gauge, so the numbers are accurate. Can someone please help? Do I have a major engine failure about to start or something?
Oh and fyi, my water temp is about 180-190 at the same time. Although today it was 215, but it was the first 100 degree summer day this year, so 215 is somewhat normal.

Re: Oil problem?
How are you measuring the coolant temp? I believe the coolant temp gauge on the LS1 cars is not very accurate.
Is your air dam still in place? If its missing, you will encounter high coolant temps at high speeds, which might not show up accurately in the coolant temp gauge.
I've also seen a case where a leaky collector gasket had exhaust blowing directly on the oil filter, causing the oil to heat up.

I do still have the air dam. And I don't have a collecter gasket as my exhaust is all welded together.
