non lt1 motor install in 95 Z

I recently bought a 95 Z-28 theft recovery with no motor. I have a blown 406 chevy motor ready to drop in. When the original motor was taken, they also took all of the computer and engine wiring. The car has full Borla Exhaust and 3:73 rear end.

Theres the background here's my ?

What kind of problems am i going to run into, does the computer control the speedometer, tach, and other gauges. Also what about rear end. Can i gut the car and drop my new motor in the shell.

On the stock setup, the computer controls the speedometer and the fuel pump. The tach comes off a wire from the computer, but you should be able to wire it other ways. None of the other instruments come off the computer. Oil pressure, volts, fuel and coolant come from sensors that do not interface with the computer.

"Drop it in" is optimistic. Have you looked at where the distributor is going to end up, and the height of the intake? You might need a pancake distributor, or some surgery on the cowl, and most intake manifolds are going to require an aftermarket/cowl hood.

The stock rear is a posi, but if your engine is making any kind of torque, the 10-bolt isn't going to survive slicks or extremely hard launches.

You might want to do a "search" on LT1 Tech, because the question on putting a Gen 1 SBC in a 4th Gen F-Body gets asked quite often.
