new vett tranny old camaro, how do i make it work?
Me and my dad bought an LT1 corvette engine, tranny, and rear end about a year ago. We did this for whatever car i was going to get, i recentley bought a 1970 rs camaro. This camaro came with 1000+ in extra parts and accessories, demon 750 4 barrel mechanical carbs, polished aluminum intake manifold, MSDI ignition and other goodies. They havent been installed yet but we have them. So we were thinking just keep the stock 350 and trick it out, but use the overdrive tranny off the vette package we got.
Basicly we (me, dad, and dads friend) need to know how to get a newer tranny to work with an older engine.
you know... how to bypass the computers and such... we were thinking about using the painless wiring thing or trying something like that.
Any suggestions, comments or ideas on how to get this newer vette tranny to work on this older car?

If you are addressing the tranny specifically, you should post on "Drivetrain".
Is the Corvette trans a manual or auto? If manual, is it the ZF 6-speed?

Sell it and get a built 700r4...
If you're determined, (assuming it's an auto...) you could install a manual valve body or get the TCI stand-alone controller ($$$) You'd still need to deal with the speed sensor for the speedometer. If it's the 6 speed, you'll probably just need a bellhousing/adapter and some tunnel/crossmember work. Given the work/$$$ involved, the first suggestion makes a lot of sense (unless you don't give a hoot about overdrive. In that case, get a turbo 400...)

Have the 4L-60 performance built and call J&W in Florida about a flex plate, then call TCS at(928)453-4020 and talk to Rusty about a converter that will have a good lock up clutch that can take the abuse. He can fill you in on an adaptor if needed, too.
You will have $3000.00-3500.00 in the set up but it will take the abuse.
Another option would be a 5 or 6 speed stick. They are expensive too.
