I plan on pulling the opti apart and removing the rotor. The cars that rev really fast have a tendency to fling that rotor apart and it implodes inside the opti case taking out the entire opti.
Using the opti without the rotor wont allow that to happen. No high voltage for wires will be passing through the opti., so no corrosion in the contacts can happen there.
Only bad thing that could happen to the opti with this setup is the bearing wear out which should be a every 100k mile kind of thing.
I had my LT motor converted to use Super Victor intake with 4500 base.
If your looking for TB you may want to check out Holley because they have a really nice billet 2000cfm 4500 base TB. Also incorparted in the Holley TB is TPS and IAC port. Accel also offers a 2000cfm TB.
I'm not sure as to what ECM your running but I elimanted my opti all together when the intake conversion was done. Keep in mind I don't run a stock ECM thus allowing ability to choose more conventional pickup references. In order to elimante the opti I now use crank trigger(Hall Effect), rear distributor to reference cylinders and MSD digt. 7 ignition.
Now say good buy to opti. Draw back to this setup is it is more of a drag race setup. Good news is if you decide to go with aftermarket ECM purchase Big Stuff EFI Gen 3 becuase this new system can be configured to operate the OEM gauge cluster.

Man 100k miles, thats a few less then 400k quater mile passes. I am going to have to do something a little more reliable.
I am going get the crab distributor and intake soon. I will make my own elbow for the victor intake so I can use my AS&M monoblade and I can make it shorter then the ones I have seen.
Now when you set the timing on the distributor, where should you set it?
