need solution for fan switch problem

ok, so i've got an 87 z28 with a custom built 350 from a 95 pickup truck. 10:1, about a .480 lift cam, forged Eagle pistons, holley street dominator intake, holley 750 double pumper with mechanical secondaries, MSD 6AL control box, MSD Blaster 2 coil, MSD Pro-Billet dist. and MSD 8mm wires.

my problem is, the guy who built this car wired up the electric cooling fan so whenever the ignition switch is turned on, the fan is on. this is not good for the fan motor, and causes the motor to run pretty cool sometimes. now that we have days that are just short of 70 degrees followed directly by nights that are in the 30s, i need to have my heat hooked up. now that i just hooked that up, as well as installed my new IROC grill , i've noticed that the air isnt hot comming out of the AC system, and i think it's because the engine isnt getting hot enough to open the therm and warm up any water except what's sitting in the motor.

to solve this, i think i need a therm that will screw into the 3/8" course threaded water jacket port on the intake that is currently plugged, so that the water will pass into the radiator and be cooled naturally by air flow before allowing the fan to come on at 205 degrees or so due to the supplied ground of the new therm.

can anyone help me here? i dont know where to get a piece like this and the people at advanced auto are no help at all unless youre looking for a factory replacement part. i've looked on alldata at a few different cars that i thought might use such a piece from the factory, but they are all computer controlled
please help!! if anyone has any alternative suggestions, please shout em out!
thanks guys

Not sure if parts stores carry them anymore but try asking for a thermostatically controlled fan switch. You can set your own temp for when you want the fan to engage. It has a temp probe you route into your radiator hose that connects to a temp dial which then goes to a relay which then can be wired to the radiator fan.

Re: need solution for fan switch problem

i think i found a solution. with the help of SS RRR, i went to google and started searching for parts related to what he was talking about. i found a lot of vehicle specific parts and extremely expensive parts that could do the job, but not be cost effective. i finally found a product that is suppose to be an accessory for some of the flex-a-fan installations, but it'll work great for what i need i think, and it's only 25 bucks, as oppose to the other products that do the same thing, but cost over 75 dollars.
the part number is 31147 and if you go to summitracing.com just search for FLX-31147 and it'll come up. anyway, what do you guys think? anyone have any problems with this idea? please feel free to criticize this solution cause i'd rather find out about problems now rather than when ive already bought the part and trying to install it.

any other solutions are still accepted! thanks guys!

You want the flex a lite adjustable fan switch. I'm pretty sure that's what you're saying you found in the above post. It'll thread into the 3/8" npt hole in the back of the pass. side head between the #6 & 8 header primaries.
