NEED ASSISTANCE: WHAT HEAD GASKET FOR AFR 220 and 210 heads??????????

Have been hearing a ton of things from a ton of different people

Here is the problem....

the FEL9966PT is a stock replacement gasket right??

well, I called AFR and they told me to use FEL-PRO 1003

Is this correct?? I have a set of the 1003's and they seem to be WAY off too so my question i guess is can you "trim" the gasket to match the ports, right now the outer coolant passages, are not even close, the hole is half way over the port and half way over the block and with the 9966PT the hole is WAY to big, not even close to the block and not even close to the head. I am lost and don't have enought experience to understand what to do, all i know is we were sold the 9966PT's first, only to find out they are for sure the WRONG ones'

I also called AFR on a different day and they said use FEL-PRO 1074

Is this correct??

What have you guys used?? and why?

for a high boosted car, what advantage would you gain by going to a Cometic gasket??

Please help, i have lost patience with AFR and other shops and places i have called

Stenod

There's a couple things you need to look at first. What quench height do you want to run? What's your current deck height? then look at gaskets. Felpro, has very few options for the LT1, the 9966PT is the stock replacement and should work just fine if you need a gasket that's over .045" thick.

There's the factory Imp gasket that's .029" thick compressed, which is a good option if your pistons below the deck .006" or more.

Then if you need a custom bore size and thickness then cometic gasket is the place to go next. I just put a set on my big block because it was cheaper than copper and they cut me the gasket to the correct bore diameter I needed. The cometic gasket is like installing a copper gasket without all the trouble. They even seal better because the top and bottom plate of the sandwhich is covered in a viton sealing rubber coating that's .001" thick which gives it a very good sealing for water. The middle layer is an uncoated sheet of stainless which makes up the thickness. They never need to be retorqued and can be used for just about any application you would normally need oringed block and copper headgaskets.

As for your water hole alignment problem. Some holes aren't meant to be the same size as the holes in the block to help direct/control water flow between the head and block. If they are look like they will seal the area off, I wouldn't worry about it to much. Also make sure you have the gaskets right side up!
