Minimum Deck Height

Sorry to bring this issue to the top but I'd like some input as I'm going to have to make a decision probably tomorrow. Question is does the LT1 block have enough "meat" to go as small as a 8.975 deck height. Does this leave the deck surface too thin, sealing problems, more susceptable to warping?

Thanks.

Re: Minimum Deck Height

I think you're chopping off too much?

Isn't the standard height for an LT1 9.025"?

I'm pretty sure the piston sits down about 0.020-0.025".

If you account for the gasket + clearance, I think you're still going to be in trouble?

Long story mostly discussed here:

Anyways what I'm looking at is 3.750 stroke, 5.85 rod. 1.250 ch piston = 8.975 zero deck. I may be able to leave it in the hole .010, which would be 8.985.

Re: Minimum Deck Height

Go with a 6" or 5.7 rod and ya can cut it to 9.0 or 9.005 and have a "0" deck. Ya can also get piston's for the 5.85 rod to do the same thing but they are pricey. Ya can get standard piston's for the 5.7 or 6 rod off the shelf.

Re: Minimum Deck Height

Another thing ya are asking for real fit problems with the intake if ya go that far.
Let them "cold"weld that block and re machine it.
