(LT1) Converting to HEI Distributor - What about the Crank Position Sensor?

I'm currently planning to convert my carb'ed LT1 over to EFI. Currently, I've welded shut the opti hole in the timing plate. This means I'd like to remove the EGR stuff and drill a hole in the intake to fit the HEI distributor. However, what do I have to do about the crank position sensor? Doesn't it work with the opti somehow? Is there a way to hook something up to an HEI distributor to serve the same purpose?

What EFI system are you planning to use? Batch fire or seqential?

You mean like this?

I have an Accel dual sync'd distributor, it's more for a cam sensor though. It's actually a Mallory billet distributor with Accel installing dual pickups.

Well, I wanted to use the LT1 ECU if possible. Otherwise I could use the L98 ECU if that would work. If I drilled the LT1 intake for an L98 HEI distributor, would that provide the proper signal (injector/firing order) for the L98 ECU? Would the sensors on the LT1 intake work with the L98 ECU?

I had a lt1 intake on my thirdgen with a HEI dist. Youll need a l98 wiring harness and comp. I think the IAC and TPI sensors will work but youll need the lt1 connectors. If not then youll need a tpi throttle body instead of a lt1 one. also a l98 knock sensor. If you use the l98 comp and wiring harness then itll work fine.
