LS1 CAM vs. 4-7 swap CAM

Lets see some facts here guyz, who knows about these cams, i wanna hear Advantages and Disadvantages to both, which is better, or worse, smoother, rougher, whatever u know about these cams post it here!!

I really am curious which is a better cam, i'm reading alot about both lately, i know the LS1 cam has a fireing order of 1-2-8-7-3-4-6-5 or something along those lines, and the 4-7 swap is self explanitory (1-8-7-3-6-5-4-2) BUT which is better and why, i believe technology is heading in the direction of these cams so i wanna hear if anybody's got ideas or facts about them primarily which is better and why..

He's a thread that might help.

4/7 swap and LS1 firing order discussion

You are not trying to do the "LS1" firing order on a SBC or LT1 are you?

No way! But i am seeing custom ground cams comming out, mainly the 4-7 swap cam, so i'm curious which would be better and why.. What if somebody did an LS1 style 60mm 'custom ground' cam in a SBC? They're doing it in nascar now arent they? Why would it or why would it not work?

Guys are reporting gains of ~10hp and 15-20 lbs-ft from BBC race engines with the 4/7 cams. Now keep inmind that we're talking about engines making at, or in excess of, 1,000 hp. I'm not sure you'd see very much from a 400-500 hp street engine. Not enough to justify the extra cost anyways.

They are suppose to be easier on the crankshaft, so perhaps big hp nitrous and forced induction guys can benefit from it. Not to mention those poor dirt trackers.

Now how bout the LS1 style cam Mindgame, any info on those vs. the 4/7 cam?

I read the thread that OldSStroker posted, it was pretty informative about he 4/7 cam but now i'm more curious about the LS1 cam.. Would a LS1 style grind make more power than the 4/7, whats everyone think.. Lets say in a BB motor, forced induction, nitrous, whatever.. All anybody seems to no is that its smoother, but the overall power in the end seems questionable..

What do u think would happen if u added a 180* crank in with the LS1 style cam in a BB

GM did the "LS1" (18725642) firing order on the 8200 BBC, but I'm not sure the aftermarket has cam cores for that order yet. Comp might.

If you do a 180* (flat) crank, doesn't it need a cam specifically for it? A flat-crank 90* V8 acts like two 4 cylinder engines, so a possible firing order is 12567834, alternating banks on each consecutive firing.
