help with top end.
ok ive been a gm tech for 6 years installing engines and working heavy line and doing alot of stock work and now im in the middle of building my first stroker motor for myself it is a 396. to get to the point im putting the heads on and they are they are TPIS AFR lt1 heads. and was getting ready to set the valves to prelube the engine when i noticed the pushrods touched the head and not the guide plate on one side . there is alittle room to move the guideplates as ARF states to do but htere is not enough to keep them off the heads .the guide plates have one elongated side and this is where the pushrod touches the head and not the guide plate. AFR states that i can only use there guide plates #6105 that come with the heads .the people at tpis said i can use comp cams guide plate in place of ARF'S i tested the comp cams guide plate #4808 off of the stock heads i had them on when i converted to COMP CAMS RR . and found them to keep the pushrods on the guide plates and not touching the head. has any one encountered this and what should i do i want to put the COMP CAMS guide plates on and be done but i need an expert opinion. thanks for any support.
This is not an expert opinion.......
I have the AFR 190cc and never had any interference with the pushrods touching the heads but I never felt, with their guideplates, that the rockers were where they needed to be (centered side to side of the valve tip). I tried to find the happy medium but this didn`t even seem optimal. I`m goin` to some Jesel shaft rockers now.
