540 vs. 632
Either one is the same price to built shortblock. What would be the better choice for Dart Pro1s and a single dominator?
Would the 632 be dead with those heads?

Well alot of guys seem to run the 12* pro filers on those engines. I want to make sure I have all my ducks in a row....
One downside is the block is a merlin and not a dart on the 632. I am going to order everything dissassembled shortblock so I can check everything, then bare heads
The car It is going in won't fit a sheet metal intake either, so that is out of the question too.
I want a thousand h.p. on motor
Even with the dart block and profiler heads the 632 is almost the same price. And that price looks very good compared to my recent LT1

A good friend of mine just built a 638 with the Profiler heads the engine made 1348hp he built it to replace his 540 with Brodix bb5's and it made 1095hp. Cubes are nice however if the chassis isn't there you'd be better off with less torque and less hp.

Of course, with enough time and $$$ you make just about any head into what you want. But buying them as close as possible to what you need saves a ton.

After I posted I went to Dart's website and I was pleasantly surprised that it had been updated. I hadn't realized the Pro 1 line had been so extensively updated and there are a ton of options out there. Is there a 24* head out there that can suit your needs or are you looking elsewhere?
I ending up chosing RHS 320cc heads for my 555 BBC for the same reason, they were close to what I wanted right out of the box. I just hope that the proof IS in the pudding when it's all said and done, lol

I need to find some more info on the power.......I think I could handle 1,000 but much more then I would rather just have another car.
This car is stock floor pan etc. and will run a 31x10.50 And like I said I can't run a sheetmetal intake on it b/c the back carb wont fit. I want it to run like a quick8 class, or southern oulaw street class. So i need the stock glass.
The price differance in the 2 engines is only around $3,000 or less

How high are you spinning it? Is this drag racing only? Solid roller up to 8K RPM? A 540 with ported 345's should work well. Something around a 360cc intake flowing around 420cfm should be nice if you can spin it up. Other wise go 632 with at least a 360cc head like the Dart Race series or RHS head. IMHO of course.
I don't know why you would not build the 632? Why not keep the revs down, make more power, and hurt parts less? Remember you are not class racing... your job is to make more power with less money and add reliability!
In my method of porting it seems that you have 2 logical choices. A properly prepped set of 345's will do the job well. If you play your cards right you should be able to make 1075-1090 on a properly configured 632. If you want more power out of a conventional head the only thing out right now that would be worth considering would be the Vic 24 degree. They take a a lot of work but can make some very impressive power.
Thanks
Dennis
