Gears/T/C selection question
How should you select a set of gears or T/C? Should they be selected based on peak hp or peak tq that your engine develops. I know that hp is a calculation using torque and ?
And that more torque will develope more hp right? I was thinking of putting in steeper gears but if I went too far I would run out of steam at the big end based on the hp/tq rating of my engine. If I just wanted to go around squeeling the tires I would just do the rear end but I also like my 27 mpg
Thanks

Gears should be selected to match the torque curves (more so the extention of the curves)1 of the car and even more importantly the transmission gears of the car..
Converter should take into account the torque curve, gears and vehicle weight.
When these parameters and traction limits (and you can also include MPG) converge you can confidently choose the correct combination.
Notice there is no clear cut answer without more descript parameters from you! It is all about optimization.

OK here's some info. Supposedly my 95 LT1 has a rating of 275hp @5200rpm,325tq @2400rpm, Approx 3500lbs. .447/.459 lift and 205/207 dur at .050. 4L60E w/2.73's.I think the converter has an 1800 stall? There is nothing done to the engine, except for a shot of N2O I run 14.40's N/A on BFG street tires and leave the line soft so not to spin. (I have BFG Drag radials I will use)The trans shifts into 3rd about 150' before going through the traps at about 3500 rpm. What would you suggest doing first to lower my ET some? Keeping in mind that this is mostly a cruiser car and doesn't see a lot of strip time.I read your thoughts on the post about the guy switching to 3.73's I had a 79 camaro that had a 3000stall and 4.56's that only saw strip time and it was wound tight at the big end. Don't want all that with this car.

Based on analysis after the fact (using my personal software) the end result was very close to optimal.
