Well after reading every thing it sounds like you Opti may have been failing before you added the Delteq and has just finished it self off.

I have had opti's leave me stranded with NO prior warning

I concur, but why does the car start and run for a short time (3-5 minutes) and THEN die. It runs fine for that period of time...

Last time my opti went out, it would run good for about 15 mins, then start missfiring and it would progress within 2-3 mins and be undrivable. When I took the opti apart the bearing mount was broken so the optical wheel had no support. Only thing I can think of is it started creating plastic dust from rubbing on the pickup, and it became cloudy in there and the optics were no longer able to pick up the holes in the wheel. After I let it cool down and settle, it would run for another 15 mins again.

exactly what I wanted to hear. Thanks again to this board and it's many valued members, it looks like we've (read: you) solved another one. Ordering a new vented opti this week... but who from?

Hi Jesse,

Dumb question did you get a chance to pull the opti aprt to see if there is junk in there... ussally you can clean it up and the opti sensor is fine after that unless there was a bearing problem ?

Jim,

No, I have not. I've got NO way of doing it as I'm in Omaha (car is here too, but it's at the dyno shop) and my shop is 150 miles NORTH. To say this is unfortunate is an understatement. I actually have to hire someone (my brother, so no worries ) to come get it and I'll work in it later. To be honest, I'm completely losing interesting in finishing this project and I'm considering parting it out or simply raffling it off

Jesse my Friend Claude was in the same boat but this is all part of hot-rodding sometimes you need to step back and catch your breath .... trust me i have been in that boat many times and i have sold off cars beacue of that ..... and in the end i kicked myself beacuse i had to start all over again when i catch the bug ...but before you spend more money i would at least take a peak in the opti before you order anther one ... becasue i bet there is junk in there thats causing the opti sensor to flip out ...

If you do buy another Opti, I believe Jason Cromer from Sam Taylor Buick/Cadilac is the cheapest. I paid $178 for a new one.

Jason Cromer: 877-726-8295 or 850-243-8826 (direct parts dept ph #)

email: parts@samtaylor.com
