FAST Comp & aftermarket EFI?
FAST Comp & aftermarket EFI?
Hopefully this is posted in the right erea. Here is my plan: I have a bare motown block im building up into a 396 stroker with a callies crank childs& albert rods and JE forged pistons. This is a first gen style block so it will use a set of heavily worked over Edelbrock e-tech heads with a 2.05-2.08 valve flowing around 300@.600 lift, and a ported super victor manifold.Im ditching the stock pcm and want to run a FAST system comp with maybe an accel 4 barrel TB? I have an msd pro Billet distributer from another project I was also goung to try to use. Anyone forsee any problems with this set-up? Im using a single plane manifold that will have to have injector bungs welded into place, anyone try that here? whats the difficulty? Im also going with a custom direct port nitrous system as I hear the FAST system can be set up to add the extra fuel when needed for the spray. Also how hard is it to set up the fast system once installed?Injector size,I was thinking 80-90 pounders to handle the dryshot of a possible 400extra hp.
Re: FAST Comp & aftermarket EFI?
I have worked with both FAST and Electromotive and prefer the Electromotive. Both systems can be used to trigger nitrous. For about the same price as FAST it is a more flexible system.
You will get wildly different opinions about how hard it is to set up one of these systems. I would say it's fairly easy for track use. At the track, if it will start and drive through the pits all it has to do is run right at WIOT. That is pretty simple to achieve. If anyone says it is "easy" to even approach (let alone equal) the manners of an OEM FI setup in street driving, they are talking out their ***. It is very time consuming and in all likelihood will never drive like a stocker no matter who tunes it due to the cam, heads, and intake.
Nonetheless, for example, I have a friend with a Mustang and a small stroker motor and the Electromotive. The setup uses a Procharger and the car has full interior, etc. yet will run high eights. It is certainly drivable, other than the noise. But in spites of many, many hours of work it is far from a factory setup in terms of drivability. Again, that is not so much a function of the ECU as it is big heads, cam, and intake. But getting to even this point was not easy. Stil, it sure runs nicer than anything with a carb and near the ~3hp/ci he is making.

Re: FAST Comp & aftermarket EFI?
I've used the FAST system for the last 5-6 years. I'm very happy with the performance and ease of tune of the system. The wide band O2 sensor is a must have option. I started off without it and upgraded later. It was a good investment. That made the tuning much easier. I also upgraded to the N2O option. It's pretty cool. You can get by with some 65 or 72 lb injectors in your application.
Shameless plug time...I've got my FAST system for sell on Eb*y now. You can get it for less than half price of a new one.

I'm gonna step up to the new GEN II FAST.
