what is a 400 sbc bored .30 over stroked equal? the usual amount, not drag racing. like 350 is 383. not like the 350 with 396 or 427. Thank you.

Um, i don't know if this is the answer you are looking for, 'cause your question/wording is kinda confusing. But a 400 bored .030 over, and retaining stock stroke, would be 406 cubic inches.

what length stroke are you talking about? a 383 is a 400 stroke crank in a 350 bored .030.

not real sure on what you're asking here......

Yeh, Fred's motor is bored and stroked for drag racing, not the usual amount so he wouldn't know.

To add to what Fred and others have already said... A 400c.i. SBC has a stock bore of 4.125 inches and a stock stroke of 3.75 inches. Boring it .030" would bring the bore size to 4.155 inches. Using this bore size with a stock stroke of 3.75 inches would give 406c.i.

im sorry i know i didnt explain it to well. let me try again
hypothetically, i have a 350. if i bore it .30 over, and want to stroke it i have a choice of 383, 396, and so on.

now if i had a 400 bored .30 over, i know thats 406, but if i was to stroke it, what would the smallest size cu in. be

434 is common size for a 400 stroker motor. 4.155" bore with a 4" stroke. Some other sizes readily available are 412 with a 3.800" stroke and 420 with a 3.875" stroke.

Pushing a production 400 block to 434 is a little risky. You're better off buying an aftermarket 400 block like a Bowtie. There are a few aftermarket SBC blocks that can be pushed to 454. Don't expect many cheap heads to be able to feed a large SBC. Some of the better SBC heads flow where a BBC starts.

Heads make or break an engine. Exotic engine sizes mean nothing if they're restricted with poor flowing heads/valves.
