it happend when they hit the brake for the drums. i think my pinion angle was off.

I've been running/observing a chassis-dyno(Mustand Dyno) at a local shop here for ~2 years now, and I've never seen something like that before. No damage that was actually caused by the dyno in all that time.
i thought it was strange also. man did it scare the hell out of me, i thought the motor blew up. i did get lucky it only dented my torque arm and the guys floor.
i've done well over 20 pull before with no problems.

Yes the misconception was mine...regarding to chassis dyno...
It was on a brake dyno then (out of car) With the above posts now I undertand why they did what they did before shipping his engine...

The dyno i have used before doesnt use a fan or two, but a large device close to the ground that blows a huge amount of air. I mean you can barely stand in front of the car with it on... So at least in my case i dont think the cooling argument is viable.

If you've got heat problems with a 30 second dyno pull, you have bigger problems and don't need to be on a dyno in the first place.

While I agree that it's probably far less of an issue with naturally aspirated cars, or cars on low boost, high boost turbocharged or supercharged cars which require intercooling can suffer far more on a dyno when there is inadequate airflow, and the elevated temperatures of the compressed intake charge, coupled with insufficient cooling can result in detonation. I should have qualified my statements further, apparently.
