does oil pump need a gasket?
hey, were building a 383 stroker right now. our oil pump didn;t come with a gasket. do we need to use one or do we just leave it metal to metal?
would silicone be okay?

Between the main cap & pump.... no. They do come in some kits though. If used & it did split or partially blow out, it would result in a substantial leak/pressure loss.
The 2 (cap/pump) machined surfaces are not a major source of leakage & nothing to worry about. It would be better to have a small leak between a gap of less under .001" instead of having a chunk blow out of a 1/16" thick gasket.
I have also seen a gasket for the oil pump cover.... do not use this either. It will increase the pump clearances (between gears & end cover) & result in lower oil pressure by creating an internal pump leak.
