If you assemble a block and find you need .005 for 0 deck, I guess you could rub off the machine and cut your .005. What happens if the core has shifted and you have .005 in number 8 and .001 in number 2? Do you cut the block at an angle?
It sounds to me like that type of machine is designed automatically to mill the decks parallel with the crank centerline and at 45° to the cam-to-crank plane. It doesn't sound like the machine knows or cares if the decks are crooked to start with; they'll be true when it's done. But somehow that also sounds too good to be true.

That's how most decking machines are...the front to back level and square will be as acurate as the person who originally leveled the machine, but the level from side to side(bank to bank) has to be set by the operator.
