crank stroke / rod lenght

What has to be done? My engine builder ordered a crankshaft that was ground for a 6'' rod and my rods are 5.85 when i told him he made it sound like it was an easy fix. So is it possible to fix this problem w/out changing rods or pistons and keeping CR the same?

BTW its a 383 3.75 stroke .030 over CR was 8:1

The crankshaft counterweights will need to be milled to remove material. This will make it a bit more expensive to balance if weight needs to be added. Alternatively, a little material could possibly removed from the piston skirt. It will not be a problem for a skilled machine shop but will add a few bucks. BTW, why did you go with a 5.85" rod? Couldn't make up your mind between 5.7 and 6"?

FWIW, I prefer a short rod on a blower car and a long rod for NA. But I am not kidding myself that it makes any more than a gnat's whisker of difference!

There's a good chance that there might not be any issue with the 5.85" rods. Moke it up and measure the clearance between piston skirt and crank counter weight.

Describe what you are using the motor for, what rpm range, etc.

Here's the info. About as good as any out of the box 23 degree head. Get them unported if you have a very good head porter you use, but prepare to pay a lot more.
