Re: Cola rods?

Sorry guys, Cola has never been in the connecting rod MFG business. We talked about it but thats about how far it's gotten, maybe in the near futrure. About 1998 we were starting to get into the warehouse business and we were buying rods and re-packaging them in Cola boxs...anybody need rod boxes? still have thousands. Some of you out there are better informed as to what we sold better than I was. If anyone needs answers to any Cola questions please feel free to call at 562-4641690
Thanx,

Thanks for the info. They looked nice, though heavy and at a good price. So, I bought them. If you come across someone with some details, let me know.

Raul, I was with Arrow Speed in that timeframe when the connecting rods were listed in your catalog. I also enjoyed the "glory days" of the $679 crankshaft, we couldn't keep them on the shelf. Your GM deal kinda dried up the supply chain for a while after that, and its too bad. You should tell this group about your small block under the bench at the shop some time. If I remember right you have a pretty trick piece. Take care.

Re: Cola rods?

I was taking a good look at them tonight. They look a lot like Manley H-beams. Does Manley make their own or buy them?

Re: Cola rods?

I can't answer that with 100% assurance. They have had their rods forever, and while I doubt they forge them there in Jersey, I'd bet they have them made to their specs. They have always been innovative with their connecting rod lineup.

Yeah, I would like to know this also. I bought Manley H-beams for my build-up because I heard that of course that they were a very good product but also that they were not imported and made here. I was later told that this was not true and I have done some searching but I have been unable to find any information about where their rods are made. Any input form anyone else would be a great help.

Re: Cola rods?

I know that Oliver and Carillo make their own, FWIW. Lunati used to, but since they were bought out???

Re: Cola rods?

Great, all I really wanted to know was if they were made in China or not, I was pretty sure that they were not. I was trying to stay away from the "Made in China" parts also. That's why I bought a Cola crank and Manley rods. Though, I had a guy here on this board try to tell me that Cola cranks were made in China.

You know, before I get blasted on, I will say that Eagle's parts are made in china, but they have done a bang up job getting them to produce a good product. I believe that Eagle still does some final machining here to ensure a quality product. Many people have embraced their line and others such as Scat because the prices are so reasonable and the motors live. But......the chineese still have a tough time reading a mic. and their material still looks kinda funny, you have to see it to know what I mean. But you know what, I can't think of anybody who has broken a SBC crank, other than the snout on a blower car.

I had known that both Eagle and Scat were made in China and that is one reason why I went with the Cola (I also got a killer deal on the Cola). The other reason is the other stated in your post about the crank snouts breaking. I have heard of this on Eagle and on Scatand that kind of worried me. I know that this can happen with nearly any crank (when using a supercharger) but I am planing on using the ATI BB hub with my crank. I may also consider a brace similar to that used by Speed, Inc to take some of the load off of the blower and crank snout. Hoepfully that will be enough.

EDIT: If I was building a NA engine, I would not have had a problem in using a Scat or Eagle crank in my buildup. Minus the China issue.
