Camshaft gear wobble

I had to slightly open up the new GM cam gear to receive the snout of the cam (its not the cam, as the old gearset fits it fine).

I checked the fore-aft wobble of my new cam gear to make sure its "flat" against the snout of the cam, and its withing 0.005"

However, I've never seen a spec for how much a cam gear is allowed to "wobble". Anyone know?

How did you open up the gear?

.005 seems to be alot of runout, I would shoot for .001

Die grinder...

The stock gear had about 0.004, so I wasn't too concerned about 0.005

How did you come up with the 0.001 target?

Thanks,
Dave

You opened up the crank gear from the timing set with a die grinder?

It needs to be put on with a very tight fit, that's not a good thing.

.001 of runout is pretty high for something like that to be perpendicular. If it's more than .001 I get worried.
