Cam repair???

My buddy has a cam that got a few small nicks it in when his bottom end went. R there places that can fix cams like this? it's very minimal but I didn't know if this could be fixed or not.

Re: Cam repair???

There are a few places that can regrind a cam. Normally after the lobe is re-ground, the base is ground down to give back the lift. Same theory as having a cam reground for more lift however since the lobe needs to be repaired, it will still have the same lift.

What does something like this usually cost? And who do you think would be my best bet for having it done?

Re: Cam repair???

First of all, contact your local speed shop or engine builder and ask if there's anyone locally who can do it. If you have to mail the camshaft away for repairs, it might be cheaper just to buy a new cam. It's going to depend on exactly what the camshaft is.

Any of the camshaft manufacturers will regrind a cam, preferably if it's one of their own.
